Charles A. Bender arrived at the Carlisle Indian School on September 5, 1896. He would graduate from the school on May 14, 1902. After graduating from Carlisle he started to attend Dickinson College Preparatory School (Conway Hall). While there at Conway Hall, Bender worked at R. H. Conlyn in Carlisle, Pennsylvania in 1902. Charles A. Bender entered into playing Professional baseball. He started in the Harrisburg Athletic Club in 1902, signed up to play for the Philadelphia Athletics in 1903, participated in pitching in the World Series in 1910 and played with them through 1911.
