Mary Redthunder arrived at Carlisle Indian School on July 31, 1903 at the age of 16. While at Carlisle she studied dressmaking for her trade studies. Mary would graduate on July 13, 1910 and go to Mount Pleasant Indian School as a assistant matron in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan in 1910. In 1913, she moved to Dulce, New Mexico and worked as a assistant matron again at Jicarilla school in the same town.
